     I believe this Samuel was my 5th Grandfather. My Father told me that three brothers came to Tennessee and that they were from the Dutch Netherlands. That story matches that three sons of Samuel ( William, Samuel Jr, and Jacob) did in fact come to Tennessee. I believe that Samuel came from the Dutch Netherlands and settled in Maryland. At this date I have not found a ship entry for this.

It is believed that Samuel was married twice. However this has not been proven. One wife was named Hanna. We do not have proof of her last name, though some believe it to be Jacobs.

Samuel’s will was wrote 2 Jan. 1816 and probated 28 Feb. 1816,  which would give his death at a time in between these two dates. His will did not name his wife, that would indicate that she proceeded him in death.

Records of Samuel Templing

 

1.      Ancestry:  No record found.

2.      Census records: The name of Samuel Templing appears as a head of family in the 1790 census of Frederick County Maryland, 1800 in district 3  of Frederick County Maryland as Samuel Templinger, and in the 1810 census as S. Templin.

3.      Land Records: Samuel Templing Purchased a tract of land from Philip Farver on 20th day of December 1771. This tract being a part of three Hundred acres called Four and a Half Gallons of Rum which was conveyed to Philip Farver by Geo Frazer Hawkins. The  Deed was recorded 15 Jan. 1772 Frederick Co. Maryland- Liber N page 558-9. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Andrew Hough and Jos. Wood.

4.      Land Records: Samuel Templing purchased a tract of land from Fielder Gaunt and Doctor Thomas Gaunt on the 26th day of December 1785. This tract of land called Fielderea Manor in Frederick County Maryland. The deed was recorded on the 22 Feb. 1786 in Frederick County Maryland-Liber WR#6 page 335-6. 5.      Land Records: Agreement for marking boundaries of land by Jacob Young,                                     Samuel Templin, Reter Cooelouce, Joseph Coleman, Moltin Mordsen, and Herman Cooelouce. Recorded 7th April 1788 Frederick County Maryland-Liber WR # 8 Page 22-3

6.      Land Records:  Samuel Templing issued a Patent for 449 acres of land in 1791 by the State of Maryland (S15:IC#G, Page 82). This land called “Nothing Venture Nothing Gain”.

7.      Land Records:  Samuel Templing is listed in 1798 in the Frederick County    Maryland County Land Assessment (S32,page 156) as owning three tracts of Land: Nothing Venture Nothing Gain, 443 acres: Dents Neglect, 73 acres and Fieldera, 40 acres.

8.      Land records:  Samuel Templing according to other land records sold land to the following:  1797 Martin Kiplinger,  1812 Leonard Yeast, 1813 Leonard Powell, 1813 Richard Templing, 1815 Richard Templing.      

9.      His Wife:  It is believed that Samuel Templin was married at least twice. No Record has ever been found to prove this. Samuel Templing and Wife Hanna are mention as sponsors in the  Monocacy Luthern  Congregation and Evangelical church, Zion Lutheran Church and in Weiser’s marriage entrys for Rebecca Templing and Richard Ridgley.

10.  Poll list of Presidential Election:  Nov. 9-12 1796 Poll taken at the Court House in Frederick Town in and for Frederick County. Candidates John -Tyler Federalist and George Murdock -Democrat-Republican. Samuel Templing Listed as a voter for Federalist.

11.  Will:  Samuel Templing’s will is recorded in Liber Hs1, page 185-190 Frederick County Courthouse, Frederick Maryland. List eleven children and the girls married names and the amounts they received from the estate.

12.  His Children:

The will of Samuel Templing indicates he had eleven children. It appears that they were born between the 1760’s and 1780’s. For some of them the date of birth is known and also the date of marriages.

Married:  22 Dec. 1787  Jacob Shuman. (Maryland Marriage Records).             Death:      10 April 1826      Montgomery Co. Ohio.  (Research by Bob & Dana Kapp).          

     2.    Rebecca Templing--- (Rebeckah)

Born:      1764

Married: License issued   24 Sept.1782   Richard Ridgely  (Maryland Marriage Records). Marriage at Frederick, Maryland Evangelical Church

On 30 Sept. 1782. Witnesses- Samuel Templin and wife Hanna, Sara Ridgely and son Jacob, Maria Schoenin, Windbugler.

Death: Before  11 July, 1811

3.       William Templing

Born:  1766                

            Married:   30 June 1793---Susannah Gier  (Gyer) ( Maryland Marriage Records).

Death:       August 1846  in Washington County, Tennessee. Buried in Gyer Cemetery.

4.      Elizabeth Templing---(Elisabeth)

Born:  7 Dec. 1767

Marriage:  Licenses issued 23 Dec. 1790. ---Leonard Yeast. (Jest, Yaste).

Death:  8 Sept. 1847  Buried at Reformed church Cemetery, Middletown, Maryland.
